Today’s video of the day is the Butthole Surfers – "Jet Fighter" released in 2001.

“Jet Fighter” by Butthole Surfers returns with a strange and striking video. First, the track came from the shelved After the Astronaut sessions in the late 1990s. However, a reworked version appeared on Weird Revolution in 2001. Now, in 2026, the band finally reveals the original recording. As a result, the release builds momentum for the long-awaited After the Astronaut. This moment also reconnects fans with a lost chapter in the band’s history.

Meanwhile, Butthole Surfers formed in Texas in the 1980s. They blended punk, psychedelia, and noise rock. Therefore, they became one of alternative rock’s most unpredictable acts. Albums like Locust Abortion Technician and Electriclarryland pushed boundaries. In contrast, Weird Revolution leaned toward electronic textures and cleaner production. Because of this shift, “Jet Fighter” bridges two eras. It connects the raw chaos of earlier work with the polished sound of their later material.

In addition, the “Jet Fighter” video matches the band’s surreal style. Directed by Jeffrey Garcia, it uses absurdist mixed-media visuals. For example, it mixes collage, animation, and strange imagery. At the same time, the lyrics tell a dark, ironic story. Mikey dreams of flying but faces harsh reality. Consequently, the video enhances the song’s satire and emotional contrast. Overall, “Jet Fighter” stands as a key piece of After the Astronaut. It also highlights how the band evolved while staying unmistakably unique.
