Today’s video of the day is David Bowie – "Never Get Old" released in 2003.

David Bowie brought his sharp wit and restless creativity to “Never Get Old,” a driving rock track from his 2003 album Reality. Released during the later phase of his remarkable career, the song explores aging with humor, defiance, and unmistakable Bowie style. At 56, Bowie imagined a stubborn rock star refusing to accept mortality. However, he described the song as a “rather silly” idea rather than a serious statement. Instead, its energetic guitars, spacey keyboards, and distinctive vocals turn that anxiety into an infectious rock anthem.

Throughout his career, Bowie constantly reinvented himself, moving from glam rock and soul to electronic music and alternative rock. Albums such as The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, Low, and Let’s Dance established his reputation as a musical innovator. By contrast, Reality embraced a direct, guitar-driven sound while retaining his experimental instincts. “Never Get Old” appears as the album’s third track, following “New Killer Star” and “Pablo Picasso.” Moreover, it reflects the record’s recurring themes of identity, mortality, and modern life. Although Reality arrived decades after Bowie’s breakthrough, it demonstrated that he could still combine sharp songwriting with contemporary rock energy.

The song also inspired an unusual collaboration between Bowie’s past and present. In 2003, production company Endless Noise created “Rebel Never Gets Old,” an officially sanctioned mashup combining “Never Get Old” with his classic 1974 hit “Rebel Rebel.” The hybrid track featured in an Audi commercial, highlighting Bowie’s willingness to embrace emerging digital music culture. Although “Never Get Old” lacked a standard commercial CD single release in Western markets, it still received its own promotional music video. The clip later gained renewed attention when Bowie’s estate released a high-definition remaster in August 2025. Ultimately, “Never Get Old” captures Bowie’s enduring ability to confront life’s biggest questions with humor, energy, and a rebellious spirit.
