Today’s video of the day is Stereo MC’s – "Lost In Music" released in 1991.

British hip-hop and electronic group Stereo MC’s released “Lost In Music” in 1991. The song appears on their second album, Supernatural (1990). Group members Rob Birch and Nick Hallam wrote the track. Soon after release, the song gained attention on dance floors and radio. As a result, it reached number one on the US Dance Club chart. Meanwhile, it also entered the UK Singles Chart. The song’s groove blends hip-hop rhythm with funk energy. Therefore, it helped define the group’s early sound.

The video reflects the track’s urban rhythm and club atmosphere. It pairs street imagery with performance scenes. As the beat moves forward, Birch delivers vocals with a loose, confident flow. His style mixes rap phrasing with a swagger inspired by rock and ragga influences. In addition, the popular Ultimatum Remix pushed the track deeper into clubs. Because of this remix, the single gained even stronger dance appeal. Although the title echoes Sister Sledge’s famous disco song, the band created an original composition. Still, the shared theme celebrates freedom through music.

Stereo MC’s formed in London during the mid-1980s. From the start, they mixed hip-hop, funk, and electronic beats. Their debut album, 33-45-78 (1989), introduced that hybrid style. However, Supernatural refined it with stronger grooves and clearer songwriting. “Lost In Music” stands as one of the album’s key dance tracks. Later, the group expanded this sound on the hit album Connected (1992). Consequently, songs like “Lost In Music” helped bridge their early underground work with their global breakthrough. Even today, the track remains a vibrant snapshot of early-1990s British hip-hop and dance culture.
