Today’s video of the day is Taucher Battles Talla 2XLC – "Nightshift" released in 1999.

In 1999, the German trance scene reached a peak moment with “Nightshift” by Taucher and Talla 2XLC. More than just a single, the track became a live phenomenon—especially during its explosive performance on Club Rotation on VIVA. Released on March 22, 1999, through Adrenalin and Technoclub Records, “Nightshift” captured the energy of late-90s trance at its finest. Written and produced by Ralph-Armand Beck (Taucher), Andreas Tomalla (Talla 2XLC), Torsten Stenzel, and Vernon Baur, the track blends soaring melodies with driving beats. Vocals by Kate and Matthew Tasa add emotional depth, giving the anthem a euphoric lift that defined the era.

However, it was the televised “battle” that made “Nightshift” legendary. On Club Rotation, hosted by Daisy Dee, Taucher and Talla 2XLC faced off behind the decks in a high-energy showdown. The performance perfectly captured the competitive spirit of trance culture at the time. Both DJs delivered their signature styles, turning the studio into a full-scale rave atmosphere. As a result, the broadcast became a defining visual memory for fans across Europe. “Nightshift” also served as the anthem for the sixth edition of the Techno Club mix compilation series, further cementing its status in the scene. Popular versions such as XLC’s Club Mix and the DJ Taucher Club Mix kept dance floors moving throughout 1999 and beyond.

Visually, the Live @ Club Rotation video showcases the raw excitement of the late-90s electronic movement. Strobe lights flash. The crowd pulses. The DJs exchange focused glances as synth lines rise and break. In short, it is pure trance nostalgia. Today, “Nightshift” remains a timeless classic. The video stands as a snapshot of an era when trance ruled European television and DJs became larger-than-life icons.
