Today’s video of the day is Bubbles – "The Man Who Sold the World" released in 2016.

Bubbles, the beloved character from Trailer Park Boys, released his cover of “The Man Who Sold the World” in 2016. The performance is a heartfelt tribute to David Bowie, honoring the song’s legacy with a raw, emotional twist. Known for his thick glasses, love of cats, and unexpected musical talent, Bubbles brings a haunting sincerity to the iconic track. Originally written by David Bowie, “The Man Who Sold the World” first appeared on his 1970 album of the same name. The song explores themes of identity, alienation, and self-deception. Nirvana’s legendary 1993 cover during their MTV Unplugged session introduced the song to a new generation, giving it a darker, more introspective edge. Bubbles channels that same emotional depth in his version.

This cover appears on The Ballad of Bubbles and the Shitrockers, a collection of songs performed in character by Bubbles. The album blends comedy with surprisingly strong musicianship. While the rest of the album leans into country-rock and comedic anthems, “The Man Who Sold the World” stands apart. It’s more serious in tone, showing another side of Bubbles and his passion for music. Fans of Trailer Park Boys will appreciate how the performance reflects Bubbles’ deep emotional core. Unlike his humorous originals, this song highlights his genuine love of classic rock. His unique voice adds vulnerability, making it more than just a parody.

The video is available on YouTube and fits seamlessly into the Trailer Park Boys universe. Yet, it also stands on its own. It’s a respectful nod to Bowie, Nirvana, and the power of a song that transcends generations. In short, Bubbles’ version of “The Man Who Sold the World” is both touching and unexpected. It adds depth to his musical catalog and shows how even a fictional character can breathe new life into a timeless track. For fans of Bowie, Nirvana, or Trailer Park Boys, it’s a must-watch performance.
