Today’s video of the day is :wumpscut: – “Your Last Salute” released in 2004.

The video for “Your Last Salute” (Air Forge Remix) by :wumpscut: is a fan-made creation. It uses scenes from Meshes of the Afternoon, a 1943 avant-garde film by Maya Deren. The haunting imagery of the movie perfectly matches the song’s dark and unsettling atmosphere. :wumpscut: was founded in May 1991 by Rudy Ratzinger. Before making music, he worked as a DJ in South German clubs. Inspired by Leæther Strip, he began crafting his own dark electronic sound. Unlike many industrial acts, :wumpscut: never performed live. Rumors of concerts surfaced, but they were always false. The project remained a studio-only endeavor.

The song appears on Bone Peeler, released in 2004. This album marked a shift in :wumpscut:’s sound, blending raw beats with eerie melodies. It followed Wreath of Barbs (2001), one of the project’s most well-known releases. While Wreath of Barbs> had a polished feel, Bone Peeler leaned into darker, grittier tones. The Air Forge Remix of “Your Last Salute” adds extra depth, making it a standout track. This song and its remix fit into :wumpscut:’s evolution. Early albums like Music for a Slaughtering Tribe (1993) and Bunkertor 7 (1995) had a harsher, more aggressive sound. Over time, the project experimented with melody and atmosphere. “>Bone Peeler balanced both elements, creating an intense yet haunting experience.

After Bone Peeler, :wumpscut: released several more albums, refining its dark electro style. In 2017, Ratzinger decided to end the project. However, in late 2020, he surprised fans with news of a new album for 2021. Despite the long hiatus, :wumpscut:’s influence on industrial music remains strong. The fan-made video for “Your Last Salute” (Air Forge Remix) is a striking addition to the project’s legacy. The dreamlike visuals from Meshes of the Afternoon enhance the song’s eerie mood. Fans of dark electro and industrial music will appreciate its intensity and depth.
