Today’s video of the day is Ahmex – “Paparazzi” released in 1994.

Ahmex released “Paparazzi” in October 1994 under the Virgin label in Germany. The song captures the relentless pursuit of celebrities by photographers. The video brings this theme to life with striking visuals and high-energy editing. Ahmex was formed by German composers Rob Bolland and Ferdi Bolland. They were known for their work in electronic and dance music. Ahmex Areloegbe was the frontman, bringing a dynamic stage presence. The Bolland brothers handled keyboards, synthesizers, samplers, bass, and drum programming. Bert Meulendijk played electric guitars, while Hans Weekhout added extra keyboard and sampler work. The female backing vocals came from Esther Teule and Birgit Beelte, with Yolanda Soniga providing spoken-word parts.

“Paparazzi” stands out with its pulsating beats and catchy melodies. The lyrics explore the obsession with fame and media exposure. The track was a club favorite, fitting perfectly into the ’90s Eurodance scene. The song appeared as a standalone single rather than on a full-length album. Ahmex did not release an extensive discography, but the track remains a cult classic. It shares similarities with other Eurodance and synth-driven hits of the time. Fans of acts like 2 Unlimited or Snap! would find familiar elements in Ahmex’s style.

The music video reflects the song’s themes with fast-paced imagery of photographers chasing celebrities. The visuals highlight the chaotic world of media scrutiny. Bright lights, flashing cameras, and dramatic angles add to the intensity. The video captures the ’90s dance music aesthetic, blending performance shots with storytelling elements. “Paparazzi” remains a snapshot of the Eurodance era. Its energetic production and engaging video keep it relevant for fans of ’90s electronic music. The song’s theme still resonates in today’s social media-driven world.
