Today’s video of the day is Machine in Motion – “Have in Mind” released in 2020.

Machine in Motion, a Houston-based synthpop duo, released a stunning cover of Cetu Javu’s classic track “Have in Mind” in 2020. This version, remixed and produced by Machine X, added a fresh, modern twist to the beloved song. Robert Ehlinger of The New Beat fame also contributed his production skills, making this track a standout. The band, formed by Robert Powers (Robert Messer) and Robin Stefan (Robin Barbour), originally called themselves “Man and Machine.” However, after signing with EMI/SBK Records in 1992, they rebranded as Machine in Motion. This name change marked a new chapter in their music career, allowing them to reach a wider audience.

The 2020 remix of “Have in Mind” is part of the duo’s continued effort to pay homage to their musical influences while adding their unique sound. The track, not tied to a specific album, stands out as a tribute to the synthpop era. It connects with the band’s other work by maintaining their signature electronic style, blending nostalgic elements with contemporary production. The music video for “Have in Mind” features a mix of live footage spanning three decades. Clips from the 1990 Houston Battle of the Bands, a 2019 Information Society concert, and a 2020 performance at Sam’s Burger Joint Music Hall in San Antonio were seamlessly integrated. The video, co-produced by Machine in Motion and Robert Ehlinger, adds a visual layer to the song, highlighting the band’s energetic live presence over the years.

Mastered by Dominion Sound, the remix exemplifies the band’s dedication to high-quality production. This track, though a cover, aligns with their broader discography by showcasing their ability to reinvent and breathe new life into classic synthpop sounds. It stands as a testament to their longevity in the music scene, connecting the past with the present in a way that resonates with fans old and new.
