Today’s video of the day is the Crush Of Souls – "Touch From A Heartbeat" released in 2025.
Crush Of Souls blends darkwave, industrial, and post-punk influences on “Touch From A Heartbeat.” Led by Charles Rowell, the project combines driving electronic rhythms with atmospheric synths and dark romanticism. Before launching Crush Of Souls, Rowell played in American bands The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower and Crocodiles. However, his move from New York to Paris inspired a new creative direction. As a result, Crush Of Souls developed a distinctive sound that balances electronic body music (EBM) beats with colder, more experimental influences.
Released on April 4, 2025, the music video for “Touch From A Heartbeat” accompanies a track from the second full-length album, Lézire. Avant! Records released the album on March 21, 2025. Musically, the song bridges the synth-driven darkness of mid-1980s Depeche Mode with the industrial and neofolk atmosphere associated with Death In June. Meanwhile, its title and lyrics reinforce the project’s tension between desire and emotional detachment. The album title, Lézire, combines the French words lézard (lizard) and désir (desire). Consequently, the record explores the unsettling relationship between coldness, romance, and obsession.
The accompanying video was directed and edited by Alexander Schipper of Methadrome Media. It stars Rowell alongside Stevan Dinet, Laure Rowell, and model Mae Markl. Moreover, its cinematic presentation embraces leather, chains, and BDSM-inspired imagery. These elements reflect the song’s interplay of intimacy, control, and submission. While Crush Of Souls established its identity with its earlier self-titled debut, Lézire expands that foundation through a stronger sense of atmosphere and romantic darkness. Ultimately, “Touch From A Heartbeat” captures the project’s evolution while maintaining its commitment to shadowy electronics and provocative visual storytelling.
